The Call to Redemption The Phone Call Rahim Khan's call is a summons to confront the past. He says, "There is a way to be good again." Amir knows he must answer. The Journey Amir travels to Afghanistan, risking his life. He is not the same coward who ran from the alley. He is seeking redemption. The Fight In the fight with Assef, Amir is beaten but feels at peace. He has finally stood up for someone. The physical suffering is a form of atonement.

The Adoption

The Adoption The Promise Amir promises Sohrab he will take him to America. He breaks that promise temporarily, leading to Sohrab's suicide attempt. But he does not give up. The Struggle Amir fights the INS bureaucracy to adopt Sohrab. He uses his connections and his savings. He is determined to make things right.
